From Broken Cycles to Breakthroughs

I didn’t become a men’s coach because my life was easy. I became a coach because I lived the same struggles you’re facing now: broken relationships, destructive habits, no sense of direction—and the frustration of repeating the same cycles over and over again.

Meet Michael Read

My journey into men’s coaching didn’t start with success—it started with heartbreak.

Over and over again, my relationships ended with the same painful script:
“I’m not good enough for you.”
“You deserve better.”
“I can’t give you what you need.”

Sometimes those words came from my partners. Sometimes, I was the one saying them. Either way, the ending was always the same.

At first, I thought it was bad luck. Maybe the universe was against me.

But eventually, I had to face the truth: it was me. I was recreating the same cycle again and again—without even realizing it.

My Wake-Up Call

When you’ve hit the same wall enough times, you either give up or you dig deeper. I chose to dig.

I turned to research, books, and science. What I discovered was eye-opening:

  • My patterns weren’t random—they were the result of unprocessed experiences and subconscious behaviors.

  • Living on “auto-pilot” was keeping me stuck.

  • Old habits and protective mechanisms were running my life—and they didn’t want to let go.

That realization lit a fire. It explained why I was stuck—and how to finally move forward.  I discovered that I wasn’t alone—thousands of men were stuck in the same destructive loops.

When I began to understand the science behind behavior loops—how past events shape future expectations and how our biology keeps us trapped—I finally had a map. I could see why I was stuck and what needed to change.

Adaptive Men real change is uncomfortable person on track

Here’s what I learned:

  • Real change is uncomfortable.

  • Your old habits don’t want to die.

  •  Your past behaviors don’t want to be exposed.

  •  Your mind and body will protect destructive patterns at all costs.

But once I began to face those patterns head-on—mapping them out, challenging them, replacing them—I realized I wasn’t powerless.

By understanding my biology, psychology, and neurology, I began to take back control, step by step. Every day that I resisted old cycles and built new ones, I became closer to the man I wanted to be.

The Hard Truth About Change

I didn’t become a men’s coach because my life was perfect.

I became a coach because I lived the pain so many men are living right now:

  • Struggling to understand themselves and their partners

  • Fighting addictions and impulses that feel unbreakable

  • Waking up without direction or purpose

  • Repeating the same destructive cycles and not knowing why

I know what it feels like to be stuck, ashamed, and frustrated. And I know the relief—and the power—that comes when you finally understand your patterns and take control of them.

That’s why I built Adaptive Men: to guide other men through the same process—breaking cycles, mastering emotions, and building a life that feels strong, meaningful, and fully theirs.
